Who is Eligible for the IB Diploma Program?
The IB Diploma Program is an inclusive district program that is open to all School District 42 Canadian and International grade 11 and 12 students.
The DP is a rigorous course of study for motivated students. A student should have at least a B average in grades 9 and 10, but more importantly a student should have a love of learning, an interest in and curiosity about the world around them, a solid work ethic combined with determination, a willingness to develop organizational skills, and a strong commitment to learning in and beyond the classroom.
Most successful Diploma Program students lead full, well-rounded lives. They are often members of athletic teams, clubs or music groups, and are involved in a wide range of activities. Time management and organization are key skills the IB Diploma Program develops in students.
How Should I Prepare for the IB Diploma Program?
If the program interests you, we recommend that a student transfers to Garibaldi in grade 8 or 9, as this will give the student access to our IB Middle Years Program (IB MYP) and our IB DP preparation program, which consists of MYP Guided Inquiry 9 and MYP Enrichment 10 options. This prepares them well for the beginning of IB DP in Grade 11.
If you intend to transfer to the IB Diploma Program in grade 11, we recommend that you take any Enriched options offered at your present school.
Note: The full Diploma Program is timetabled as a cohort. Students must enter the full IB Diploma Program in grade 11 for all subjects. Due to timetabling conflicts within the cohort timetable, we cannot accommodate accelerated entry into the full IB Diploma Program for individual subjects.
How Much Does the IB Diploma Program Cost?
The cost for the full IB Diploma is $600 per year for a total of $1,200. This money helps to defray the cost of the IB DP program, and allows us to continue to offer IB at Garibaldi.
For students not taking the full IB Diploma, the cost for individual IB DP courses is $120 per course, with a cap of $500.
